Kentucky Birding at Boone Cliffs

Birding in Kentucky was a little different than Costa Rica... mainly because the birds seemed fewer and farther between. We really had to search the foliage and even then, many times our guide said that he could identify the songs of the birds but he was unable to see them. The ones that I was able to spot were the Scarlet Tanager, the Rose-breasted Grosbeak, the Red-bellied Woodpecker, and a wild turkey (which truth be told, he saw us first and scared us by suddenly flying up from the underbrush with a loud gobble-gobble-gobble).
It's the first weekend in May and here we are, still bundled up in our jackets and long pants. The walk through Boone Cliffs was beautiful, so very green!

Since the birds were so elusive, we spent much of our time admiring the spring wildflowers. Boone Cliffs is a lovely place for a walk but be forewarned, it is a long drive, there is very little parking, and there are no facilities.Still, great for a morning hike!
