I simply love Kentucky in the springtime and Keeneland in Lexington has recently become one of the reasons why. It is a beautiful race track and a great destination on a sunny, though still a bit chilly, Saturday afternoon. I'm told the horses race year-round, they just move locations every month or two. Keeneland has live racing in April and again in October. I've yet to visit Churchill Downs in Louisville but it is on my list of places to see. Maybe I'll make it to one of the big stakes races this year!
Of course my camera can only catch the horses when they are being walked prior to the race. Out on the rack they run into and out of frame before I can even think about pressing the button.
A delicious drink! After a few of these I quit trying to photograph the races and just concentrated on cheering my pick to the finish line. It was a lovely day and I must thank my friend, Jane, for getting us safely home... and for not letting me blow all of my winnings in the gift shop!
Two big green checks for Kentucky: horse racing and bourbon. Not sure if they cancel out all of the snow we had this winter, but I am once again happy to be in this neck of the woods.
Stay tuned next week for more pictures from my Costa Rica trip. I may even sneak in a post with pictures of some local birds. I've just volunteered to be a Bluebird box monitor for Nest Watch. It's a national program so click here if you're interested in collecting data on birds in your area.
